Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt Split! – Was she being abused? What are the signs??

It’s official! A rep for Heidi Montag has confirmed, reports TMZ.com, that the reality TV star has indeed split from her husband, the effortlessly insane Spencer Pratt.

Montag’s Twitter account has been lighting up over the past few days with tweets that could only come from a nutty young lady who’s going through a big breakup.

@heidimontag tweeted before the holiday weekend, “PS: I am not Heidi Pratt, I am Heidi Montag.”

And she continued with several other obvious tweets over the next few days. “This is going to be the best summer of my life!!!!!!” (I love the six exclamation points. She’s happy, you guys.)

She added “Girls only!!!!” referring to a sleepover with good friend Jennifer Bunney. Bunney told TMZ, “Heidi has spent so much time with Spencer and now she wants to be able to spend more time with herself and friendships.”

Montag recently tweeted, “So happy to finally spend time with my Bunny again!”

So Heidi’s happy, or, er, “happy.” I’m glad for her! Frankly, I never thought she’d get out of that relationship. And I’ve been VERY WORRIED, as you can imagine.

TMZ reports that their source says the break up “…wasn’t just a sudden thing.” Apparently their 19-month marriage has been strained for a while. Uh-duh.

For instance, Montag, 23, and Pratt, 26, recently called the police on Montag’s mom when she stopped by the house unexpectedly. It was reported that Spencer was watching the situation unfold through the blinds with binoculars. Cuckoo.

A family friend of the Pratts told FoxNews that the couple is better off without one another. “Heidi is off in her own crazy little world and Spencer is certifiably insane.”

So what are the warning signs of abuse or the potential for abuse in a relationship? Well, one partner isolating the other is definitely one of them. And that was certainly occurring here, friends of Heidi’s have confirmed.

Helpguide.org lists other signs of an abusive relationship, such as a partner often acting jealous or possessive, humiliating you or yelling at you, controlling where you are, what you do, or who you can see.

We’ve heard reports of many of these symptoms in the Montag/Pratt relationship over the last two years. Good for you, Heidi, for getting out before it’s too late!!

Unfortunately, statistics show that abuse can sometimes escalate AFTER a break-up or divorce because the abusive partner feels even more out of control than ever before. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen here. The world will be watching!
